AUCKLAND BUS DRIVERS
APPEALS BY COMPANIES Reference to the danger to the public owing to the lack of competent bus drivers was made at a sitting of the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board yesterday afternoon when appeals by bus companies for the exemption of employees from military service were heard. A witness stated that a week was allowed to determine a man's driving capacity. After that he was regarded as ai permanent employee, and it was difficult to replace him.
In answer to the Crown representative, Mr. L. N. Harris, it was stated that the establishment of a school of drivers as in London had been considered,'but the difficulty was to find someone who could be spared to manage it.
The board reserved its decision on the appeals.
