RAILWAY TRAVEL
EASTER HOLIDAYS
NEED FOR RESERVATION
Officials of the Railway Department have stated that while there will be no actual ban on rail travel at Easter, accommodation will be limited, and intending passengers will require to reserve their seats. There is little likelihood of there being any travelling facilities for the casual and last-minute passenger who does not make a seat reservation. . . Before purchasing their tickets, all passengers intending to travel more than 50 miles by the Main Trunk expresses are required to apply for seat reservations. Reservation is also advisable by persons intending to travel on the regular services to New Plymouth, Taneatua, Rotorua and Whangarei during the holiday period. It was stated that the expresses leaving Auckland for Wellington on Thursday next were already fully booked, and advance booking on other routes was also heavy. An extra train will run from Auckland to Putaruru and Tauranga on Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday, at Easter, to cope with the traffic on these lines. Similar relief trains will arrive from Tauranga and Putaruru on those, days. From next Monday until Tuesday of the following week, Sunday excepted,- an additional express will leave Auckland for Whangarei at 9.15 a.m. A similar service will run from Whangarei each day except Sunday, leaving at 11.15 a.m. Additional express trains will leave Auckland for New Plymouth on Wednesday, April 21, at 7.50 p.m., on Thursday, April 22, at 9.40 p.m., and on Easter Monday at 7.50 p.m. Trains will arrive from New Plymouth on Good Friday at 10.21 a.m. and on Wednesday, April 28, at 6.30 a.m.
