GRADE I. MANPOWER

MEN IN 21-40 AGE GROUP GENERAL POLICY OUTLINED (0.C.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. While current manpower reorganisation has affected the calling up of men drawn in recenty ballots, grade 1 men between the ages of 21 and'4o who are eligible for overseas service are liable to be called up for service in the near future. This applies particularly to single men and married men without children, and possibly to married men with one child. The aim of the army is to send these men overseas before calling on the married men with larger family responsibilities. In the meantime, there has been no move toward calling up the men from 41 to 45, whose names appeared in the last ballot. The main concern of the army authorities is to maintain the overseas reinforcement strength out of grade 1 men available. For that reason the general policy is not to manpower grade 1 men out of the army.
