N. BRIDSON'S RECORD
JUNIOR SWIMMING FEAT
DISPENSATION BY N.Z. COUNCIL At last night's monthly meeting of delegates of the Auckland Swimming Centre, Mr. Rex Moore (chairman) reported upon Norma Bridson's successful attempt last Friday afternoon on the 50 yards New Zealand record for junior girls. He stated that Mr. Baxter O'Neill, secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, was fully conversant with the circumstances under which the record attempt was made. Mr. O'Neill had specified certain conditions to meet the needs of the New Zealand council, and the officials of the Auckland centre had carried out the terms of the arrangements, as mentioned in a telephone conversation, and which were confirmed by telegram to the chairman. The time recorded by Miss Bridson was 29 2-ss, this breaking the existing record of Marjory Black, established in 1936, by l-ss.
The results of the points score competition for the Aunty Johnson Trophy for juniors and intermediates in championship events were announced at the meeting. North Shore won with 62 points, Mount Eden being second with 38, and Waitemata third with 28. The educational officer, Mr. F. W. Grey, reported on the successful running of the south suburban primary schools championships, held in the King's College pool, over 200 entries having been received.
Due to the closing of the Tepid Baths, the carnivals arranged this month by the Waitemata Club and by the combined armed forces will have to be abandoned.
