COUNTRY'S LOSS
MR. FRASER'S STATEMENT "Mr. Paikea's death is a very great loss to New Zealand, and especially to the Maori people," said the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, this afternoon, referring to the death of the Minister in Charge of the Maori War Effort. "His whole life was devoted to service for his country and the advancment of the best and highest interests of; ; both races. He was closely associated with the Maori war effort since the commencement of the war, and its latter development, which has been crowned with such great success, was under his control and direction. He had the complete Organised support of the whole of the tribes of the Dominion in recruiting, production of food crops and the supply of workers for essential industries.
