TIME FOR REVIEW

Mr. G. T. Paterson's opinion of the Auckland provincial joint committee of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society, as expressed in the Star of April 3, definitely says unity is not strength, which is contrary to all accepted principles. The joint committee is as much Red Cross as the New Zealand Red Cross Society wish to make it, so would it not be more logical for Mr. Paterson to expend his effort 111 helping to row the boat rather tnan shouting like a naughty schoolboy that he wants all the bun or he won t play. There is nothing at all the matter with the Joint Council Incorporating Act, which has the Government backing and says in effect—Joint Council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red cross Society, you are partners in order to co-ordinate two bodies with much the same ideals; the basic idea being to stop overlapping in war activities. It would appear that Mr. Paterson s humanitarian efforts are second only to his desire to trade on the worldwide name of Red Cross. As the nigger in the wood-pile, wouldn't it be better for Mr. Paterson either to row or make room for someone with a wider vision G. E. ANYON.
