VEGETABLES PLENTIFUL Good supplies o£ cabbage and cauliflower met a firm demand at the'city markets to-day. Lettuce was plentiful, 'and prices were steady. Pumpkins sold readily, but inferior lines brought low rates. Carrots eased . a little In price. There was a good demand for local tomatoes, also lor black and . yellow tree-tomatoes. Cape gooseberries and quinces. Values of persimmons have fallen. Prices were:— , Vegetables: Beet. 2/ to 6/ per case; celery, cooking, 2/6 to 3/6. per bundle, dessert, 4/6 to 6/6; carrots, 5/ to 9/ per bag, or 16/ to 20/ per cwt: cauliflowers. 9/9 to 23/ per sack; cabbages, 10/6 to 22/6; cucumbers, 3/ to 6/ doz. apple, 27 to 6/ per case; French beans. 1/6 to 3/ per bag; stringless beans, 5/ to 9/6: green peas. 10/ to 27/; kumaras, 28/ to 36/ per cwt; leeks, 1/ to 2/ per bundle; lettuce, 4/6 to 12/ per case; marrows. 3/ to 5/ per dozen; melons; citrons, 10/ to is/ per cwt; onions, 14/ to 15/3 per cwt; potatoes, Hastings, 14/ to 14/3, local, 11/9 to 12/; pumpkins, Red Warren, 4/ to 6/ per sack; choice, ripe, well-coloured Crown, 18/ to 28/ per cwt; green, mixed, 3/ to 7/ per sack; parsnips, 21/ per cwt; radish, 1/ to 2/; rhubarb, 3/6 to 6/6; spinach, 4/ to 8/6 per case; spring onions. 2/ to 3/6 per bundle; swedes, 4/ to 5/6 per bag; turnips, 12/ per cwt; Brussels sprouts, 6d to 8d per lb. Fruit: Apples, Government fixed rates; pears, Government fixed rates; tomatoes, outdoor, smooth, extra choice, 15/ to 19/6 per case; others, 5/ to 13/; crinkled. 6/ to 12/; Hutt, crinkled, 8/9; smooth, 12/ to 14/; tree tomatoes, new black, 6/ to 16/; yellow, 6/ to 13/; quinces, 13/ to 14,; grapes, hothouse, Black Hamburg, 2/1 per lb; Qros Colman, 2/ to 3/8; special, 5/2; outdoor, Albany surprise. 17/ to 21/6 per case: Te Kauwhata, 26/ to 32/; cape gooseberries, 1/6 per lb; passion fruit, 5/ to 12/; figs, 4/ to 10/; persimmons, 9/ to 10/; fejols, 6/ to 10/; guavas, 8/ to 10/9. Poultry.—The supply of poultry was medium and the demand was fair. The prices remained unchanged. There was very little demand for young drakes. Selling rates were:—Cockerels, heavy breeds, prime. 7/ to 9/ each; not prime, 5/ to 7/; light breeds, prime, 6/ to 7/; not prime, 3/6 to 5/6; hens, heavy breeds, 6/ to 7/6; light breeds, 4/ to 5/: laying hens, heavy breeds, 7/ to 8/; light breeds, 5/ to 6/; pullets, heavy breeds, best, 12/ to 15/; smaller, 5/ up; light breeds, best, 9/ to 11/; smaller, 3/ to 5/; drakes, young, prime, 3/ to 4/; smaller, 2/ up; ducks, young, 7/6 to 10/; old, 5/ to 7/; geese, 5/ to 7/; turkey hens. 7/6.t0 12/; gobblers, 15/ to 25/.
Eggs, Butter, Flowers.—Eggs: Standard, hen, 3/814 per dozen; duck, 2/612. No change in prices. Farmers'- butter: 1/414 per lb. Cut flowers: Flowers were In moderate supply. Demand and prices were fair.
