OBITUARY
REV. W. P. RANKIN
A former Presbyterian minister at New Lynn, the Rev. William Pillans Rankin, of Huntly, has died. He was born in Scotland and came to New Zealand in 1914, taking charge at Cromwell, Otago. In 1926, he was appointed to New Lynn and was transferred to Huntly three years ago. During the depression Mr. Rankin played an active part in the raising of money for the metropolitan tan relief fund. He is survived by his wife and four children. MR. JOSEPH OSBORNE OWEN A son of an original director of the New Zealand Insurance Company and founder of the Bank of New Zealand, Mr. Joseph Osborne Owen, of Owen's Road, Epsom, has died at the age of 77. Born in Auckland, Mr. Owen was educated at Christ's College, Christchurch. He travelled extensively in his younger days and was a keen huntsman and a member of the Auckland Racing Club. His father was Mr. G. B. Owen, also a member of the old Auckland firm of Owen and Graham. Owen's Road was named after him. Mr. J. O. Owen is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
