HEROISM WINS B.E.M.

LONDON, April 3. When a flying-boat crashed in shark infested waters 180 miles from land, Flight-Sergt. Peter William Hewitt, of Rawdon, Yorkshire, second pilot, swam all night by the dinghy holding up the head of a dying member of the crew. It was 70 hours before the survivors were rescued. Hewitt has been awarded the B.E.M.
