OPTIMISTIC OUTLOOK SECRETARY IN OFFICE 25 YEARS Despite the war, with so many of its players away on active service, the Auckland Rugby League had a most successful season in 1942, and faces the coming season with confidence. This was made clear at the 33rd annual meeting of the league last night. The president, Mr. G. Grey Campbell, was in the chair, and there was a large attendance. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, the chairman of the management committee, Mr. J. W. Watson, said that although the year's profit had been small, a balance sheet showing progress had been produced. There were difficulties ahead during the coming season, but these could be faced with optimism. Both Mr. Watson and Mr. E. J Phelan (a trustee) expressed appreciation of the work accomplished byiKll affiliated clubs and officials, who so much to foster the code. Congratulations were extended by Messrs. Phelan and Watson to Mr. Ivan Culpan, who has completed 25 years as honorary secretary of the league. Mr. A. Leese, of the New Zealand' League Council, said that Mr. Culpan's long years of service was a record, and he considered that most of the success of the league was due to his fine work. Opportunity was taxen to express appreciation oi the excellent administration ot the treasurer, Mr J. E. Knowling, who is now In the armed ' forces.
