AUCKLAND AIRMEN
IN CASUALTY LISTS
The eldest sen of Mrs. E. W. O'Carroll, of New Plymouth, SergeantNavigator P. S. O'Carroll, has been reported killed in an aircraft accident in Britain. A former student at the Auckland University College and the Auckland Teachers' Training College, Sergeant-Navigator O Carroll attended the Stratford Technical High School. He enlisted two and a half years ago, and undertook his training in Canada.
Reported missing on air operations is Sergeant-Pilot I. F. Bailey, only son of Mr. A. S. Bailey, of Seaview Road, Remuera. He was educated at the Waitaki Boys' High School and the Auckland Grammar School, where he played for the first eleven and the first fifteen. He was pilot of a bomber on night operations in , the Middle East.
Advice has been received by Mr. W. E. Grant, of the Ponsonby Club Hotel, Three Lamps, that his son, Flying-Officer lan Allan Charles Grant, has been reported missing on air operations. Flying-Officer Grant was educated at Mount Albert Grammar School and was a keen all-round
sportsman. He held the junior athletics championship at the school and was actively interested in jiu-jitsu, being an instructor, prior to his enlistment early in 1939. His elder brother is Squadron-Leader R. J. C. Grant, D.F.C., D.F.M. The brothers enlisted together and served with a fighter squadron in England.
