BUS SERVICES
TIMETABLE CHANGES
CONSIDERATION DEFERRED
An application by the Auckland Transport Beard for amendments to five of its suburban bus service timetables was before the Metropolitan Licensing Authority to-day and was adjourned until Monday next. A statement from the Oil Fuel Controller will be obtained in the meantime. Mr. Armstrong said that to increase the present time-tables would require extra petrol. Any relief given must be to the whole community and not to operators. Until they had information from the Oil Fuel Controller that the extra petrol required would be available to enable additional runs to be made they should hesitate about granting permission to amend time-tables. They should be most careful, because what was done in one case would have to apply to all. Mr. Montgomery said he was in favour of granting the application, as the additional trips would be catering for workers. Mr. Nagle said there was no representative of the Transport Department or the Oil Fuel Controller present, and he thought they should be represented, as they could give valuable information. Mr. Armstrong said the Authority should ascertain whether the position was such that the 25 per cent cut in services asked for by the Government and made in 1942 should be restored.
