FARM SETTLEMENT
REHABILITATION PLANS (0.C.) WHANGAREI, Sunday. Operations in connection with the rehabilitation of ex-servicemen were detailed to the members of the Whangarei Rehabilitation Committee, which operates throughout North Auckland, by Mr. J. S. Reid, treasurer-member of the Rehabilitation Board, at a conference at Whangarei on Saturday. The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Barclay, said that few cases of farm settlement rehabilitation had been handled by the State Advances Department this year. More men would wish to go on the land, and men to train them were required. Honorary local rehabilitation committees were already functioning in 23 main centres, said Mr. Reid. The Whangarei committee carried the area from Auckland to North Cape. "You will have to be hard on valuation," said Mr. Reid. "The north, it appears, has been lucky in escaping the worst of the inflation in values. You must rehabilitate the returning ex-serviceman, and not the vendor."
