APPEAL FOR PROFESSOR
- SINE DIE ADJOURNMENT

An appeal by the Canterbury University College for Professor H. E. Field, Professor of Education and Dean of . the Faculty of Social Sciences, was adjourned sine die by the Armed Forces Appeal Board. Mr. Field, who is grade 1, was stated to be 39 years of age. The acting - rector, Professor Tocker, said that Professor Field was the director of university extension work and held other essential posts. Professor Field, he added, held a commission in the Home Guard.
FIRE ON WHARF
SHEDS BURNED AT ONEHUNGA
A fire on the old wooden portion of the Onehunga wharf at 10.30 on Saturday evening destroyed a small shed and partly destroyed another. Only a few planks of the wharf wereburnt. Boating gear stored in the sheds was lost. . Emergency firemen who answered the call overlooked the nearest fire plug and ran their hose from a plug about 300 yards away, near the mam road. The outbreak was fairly soon controlled.
