LICENSING APPLICATIONS

When 238 applications came before the Metropolitan Licensing Committee to-day for' race traffic licenses, Mr. W. H. Nagle said he thought the question of granting race traffic licenses to car drivers should be adjourned until next meeting, because, in the public interest, all the parties should be heard. . 'Mr. H. J. Butcher, of the Taxi Cab Control Committee,, opposed the granting of licenses. He said the Control Committee had decided to eliminate all non-essential services, and it had been proposed to set up a roster. To allow the drivers to engage in race traffic would upset the roster, and there would be insufficient petrol to continue 'the roster the following day. Mr R. Armstrong said the authority should have information before it regarding the question of petrol. Mi' Nagle said public opinion should be heard, and on his motion the matter was adjourned until Monday next. v
