N.Z. TROOPS' MAIL

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sunday, In a statement issued to-night, the Postmaster-General, the Hon. P. C. Webb, said a report recently received from the Base Post Office, Middle East, disclosed that the sorting of the main Christmas mail for the New Zealand Division was completed at the Base Post Office in Cairo on December 14. During the period December 3 to December 17 some 6439 bags of parcels were dispatched to the division. , Conveying the mail to the forward area involved covering long distances over roads and tracks in very bad condition, with the convoy liable to air attack, and danger from extensive enemy mining. In all the circumstances the Divisional Postal unit, together with the postal lines of communication unit, the Army Service Corps and the New Zealand Divisional Motor Transport units did an excellent job. The Minister added that as from December 15 all letter mails exchanged between the base at Cairo and the division had been dispatched by air.
