A "PRINCESS ISSUE"

SPECIAL NEW DESIGN

Photographs of the Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret Rose will appear on the 1943 health stamps, which will number six- million copies of eacli of two denominations, according to a statement made this morning by the Minister of Health, Mr. Nordmeyer.

The Minister said he had great pleasure in announcing a very special design for next year's stamps. With the permission of the King, the central features of next year's stamps were to be in the 2d plus Id denomination a photograph of Princess Elizabeth, and in the Id plus id denomination a photograph of Princess Margaret Rose. A further feature of the design was that the stamps were to be triangular in shape.

"Popular though previous issues have been, it has been felt that more could be done for the health camp movement if the committees could be induced to take an even more active part in pressing the sales of the stamps," said the Minister. In order to overcome the demands of rival appeals, which are not infrequent these days, it was felt that the stamp to be associated with a revived energetic salesmanship should be a stamp of outstanding design and significance. It was with this object in view that the Royal assent was sought for an issue of special stamps featuring Their Royal Highnesses.

"I am informed by the Post-master-General, Mr. Webb, that the new stamps will be the first stamps of triangular shape to be issued by the New Zealand Post Office," he added. The colours of the new stamps are to be brown for the higher denomination and green for the lower denomination.
