FRIDAY SHOPPING To The Editor May I ask if, or when, the citv shops will be again open on Fridav evenings? The closing of shops <* Friday evenings was, I belief instituted as an emergency meal sure during the blackout period and was accepted by the shopping public as a necessary inconvenience. However, the average housewife, i n many cases with a young family, has only one opportunity of shopping at leisure, and this is on Friday even, ings, when father is home, and it seems to me that the shops of Auckland are only doing a wartime duty" if they make the maximum shopping hours available to their customers Some may be tempted to say, "Why work the shop assistants oh Friday nights?"—well, why not? What about the butcher, the baker, and the milkman. Everyone expects them to maintain a full time schedule. Auckland was the only city in New Zealand to abandon the late night, even during the period of emergency. HOUSEWIFE.
