Auckland.—ln the fifth round ol the afternoon section W. Bremner plays J. H. Colthurst. both former champions of West End and. other clubs, while A. I. Clarke plays the wlnnerfof J. Halford, formerly of Balmoral, and J. Hedley. In the evening section G. B. Osmond.-, four times club champion, plays W. Ure,-r leaving the winner of M. S. Walker and B. Innes to meet J. W. Barber, twice runner-up tot, Walter Franks (Balmoral). Grey Lynn.—ln the next round the bye goes to W. E. Mincham, the champion of 1928 and 1836. The only other two-lifer Is H. Whittle, the title-holder, who is to meet E. caddy. F t . Clarke plays M. O'Connor, while J. I. Griffiths, who beat Whittle in the final of 1941, has to meet E. E. Buckley, the champion of the previous year, and on eight earlier occasions. The players eliminated In the previous round were R. C. Caddy, T. W. Mayson, C. Prince, G. V. Cronin. the chain-; plon of 1934, and W. Dougan. A Onehunga.—Another round has been completed. P. V. McGuire, the only two-lifer, beat E. V. Sutherland, H. A. Robertson beat S. Vella.. and P. Livingstone beat C. O. West. McGuire now gets the bye, and Robertson will meet Livingstone 'when they return from the Rotorua pairs tourney, the winner (already a one-lifer) to play the final against McGuire. Carlton.—The championship has been held up through so many being at Rotorua and Tauranga. Tne two-lifers are J. R. Molloy and "VV. Whittaker. J. S. Martin, champion of 1940, and of Ellerslie in 1938 and 1939, will meet J. R. Lundon; G. A. Deare, champion of 1939, and runner-up last year, plays J. B. Proud: A. Connew. the-title-holder, will be pitted against J. R. McCullough, who was his partner when they won the Tauranga - pairs in 1941: L. G. Donaldson, who beat Whittle for the championship of Grey Lynn - in" 1835, and was Bremner's partner in winning the Dominion pairs of 1940, has C. J. S. Lea lor oppopent Epsom.—The title-holder, T. J.,e Buehan.-last year defeated E; T; Richmond to win > the-l title, whereas Richmond had defeated > him in y, the 1940 and 1941 finals, besides winning previously against F. D. Parsons and P. W. Wilson, to make up his four championships. This year Buchan had an anxious few minutes In the last round that has been completed, notching a three on the last end, which he started two down, against w. Bull. The meetinE of the two-lifers resulted in H. Allan defeating Wilson, while C. J. Aitken conquered P. Furnell. Probably the best game In that round was between T. R. George (twice club champion and also twice Onehunga champion), and W' E Taylor. The latter was runner-up to H. B. Jenkln in 1929, but is much better known as a Mount Eden player in recent years. They had a. real neck-and-neck contest, but George developed his old form and won in -the end.-.The bye in that round went to M. Pisher, who was runner-up to Buchan three years ago, ana ne now has to meet George.
