The Minister of Public Works, Mr. Semple, left for Wellington last evening. Mr. H. G. Johnston, who has been an inspector in the Wellington Education Board's district for the past six years, has been transferred to Auckland. Mr. D. M. Rae, principal of the Auckland Teachers' Training College, left for Wellington yesterday to attend a meeting of the Council of Educational Research. Mr. D. S. Earwaker, .of Dairy Flat, has been unanimously elected to fill the vacancy on the Waitemata County Council caused by the death of Mr. A. Purvis Smith, member for Pukeatua Riding. Mr. J. M. Smith, fields superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, Auckland, has arrived in Wellington to take up the position of supervisor of services' vegetable production for the duration of the war. Mr. C. C. Davenport, Main Highways Board traffic inspector, stationed at Pukekohe for the-past six and a half years, will be transferred next week to Whangarei on promotion as senior traffic inspector in the North. Mr. B. Martin, M.L.C., has been gazetted a member of the Auckland Harbour Board as representative of the electors of Mount Eden and Mount Albert, in succession to the late Mr. Hendry Luke. He will hold office until April, 1944.
