FRENCH WARSHIPS
UNDER ALLIED LEADERSHIP

"French warships will be under French command, but they will operate under Allied leadership wherever they are assigned, said, the Secretary of the Navy, Colonel Knox, speaking to journalists. For example, in the Mediterranean they would be under Admiral Sir Andrew Cunningham, and in the Pacific under Admiral C. W. Nimitz. Their assignment has not yet been deC^< cfdlonel Knox added that there had been no new developments in connection with the warships, in the French West Indies, which included the aircraft-carrier Bearn and the cruisers Jeanne dArc and Emil Bertin.
