STATE BURSARIES
MEDICAL AND DENTAL
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Selection has now been made from applicants for medical and dental bursaries recently offered by the Government with a view to assisting promising students wishing to study for the professions of medicine and dentistry, but unable to do so because of the financial commitments involved. "The number of medical bursaries has been fixed by the Government at 100, and these have been offered to the successful applicants," said the Minister of Health, Mr. Nordmeyer, this evening. There were 220 applicants for the bursaries. The Minister said that 15 dental bursaries had been allotted, but it was possible, in view of the high standard of the 47 applicants, that a few more bursaries might yet be granted. Some bursaries had been awarded to students who had already begun their courses.
