MUST HAVE PLACE
PRIVATE ENTERPRISE
BUILDING PROGRAMME.
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. At the anntial meeting of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, the president, Mr. H. L. Massey, said private enterprise must have its rightful place in the building programme of to-morrow, and while it was recognised as essential, and the duty of the State, to provide houses for returned men and their wives, it was the institute's duty to see that building financed by private individuals and institutions was permitted to proceed in accordance with the normal demand. If conditions were to be retained which would allow architects greater scope for private practice they must be able to convince the public and the Government that they are capable of efficiently executing the enormous amount of work which would be required in the immediate post-war period.
