VOLUNTARY STAFFING
At a meeting of women representatives of nearly all the patriotic and other organisations which have been helping to cater for the social needs of the armed forces since the outbreak of war, preliminary arrangements were made for the voluntary staffing of the Government. House Services Club. Miss E. Melville presided as deputy 'for the Mayoress," Mrs. J. A. C. Allum, who was absent through illness. It was decided that representatives of the organisations should form a permanent women's committee, and that under its direction each organisation should provide a voluntary staff for the club for a week, on a rota extending over about three months, the members of the staff to assist in the various club activities, including the management of dances and the running of the dining room and cafeteria.
