CHILDREN SUFFER
AUCKLAND EDUCATION
COMPARISON WITH CHINESE "The Chinese took their universities with them when the war forced them to move from one place to another. This country is not in the line of fire, yet the education of our children is the first to suffer." This comment was made by Mr. G. K. Hamilton at the Auckland Education Board's meeting this morning when the refusal of the Prime Minister to return the Teachers' .Training College for its original purpose Avas discussed. Mr. W: I. Bowyer and Mr. F. A. Snell said that if large hospitals could be built in a few months a building could be erected for the purpose for which the Training College was now being used. Mr.' M. Priestley stressed the impossibility of training teachers successfully under the present conditions when students were required to crowd into small rooms and some could not hear the lectures properly. On Mr. S. B. Sims' motion the board decided to ask the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, and the Minister of Education, Mr. Mason, to meet a deputation from the board on this matter on their next, visit to Auckland.
