AIRMAN'S FATE
BURIED IN GERMANY
After one and a half j'ears, Mrs. E. C. Nuttall, of Wairoa Avenue, Birkenhead, has received details of her airman son's fate. In August, 1941, Sergeant Alfred C. Nuttall, a reargunner, was posted missing on bombing operations, was later wrongly reported prisoner of war and again declared missing, and nearly a year later was officially presumed dead. A few days ago advice was received through the New Zealand High Commissioner,. Mr. W. J. Jordan, that one of the crew of the ill-fated bomber had communicated, through the International Red Cross Committee, a statement that all the members of the crew were alive and prisoners of war except Sergeant Nuttall, who was killed by enemy action, being seriously, if not fatallv, wounded before the aircraft crashed, and was later' reported by the German authorities to have lost his life. Information also received was that Sergeant Nuttall was buried in the military cemetery at Kiel. His only brother is a prisoner of war in Germany, having been captured in the Crete campaign.
