SICK LEAVE PAY
COMPLAINT OF DELAY
CASE OF RETURNED MEN (P.A.) DUNEDIN, this day. Delay in handing over to returned soldiers 28 days' pay for sick privilege leave, was mentioned by Mr. Jefcoate at a meeting of the Returned Services Association. He declared that army pay, irrespective of pension, was payable to returned men whose leave had been deferred until the presentation to the War Pensions Board of a certificate that hospital treatment was completed. He contended that the Government should pay immediately übon discharge from hospital and that trie soldier. shouldn't have to apply. Mr. Jefcoate also alleged that when the final medical board fixed the degree of a soldier's disability and pension, it was generally found that the War Pensions Board reduced substantially the amount recommended by the Medical Board. It was decided to ask the Dominion executive to investigate the mattei.
