Italy And Germany Share Bombers' Fury
COLOGNE AND MILAN AGAIN British Official Wireless Rec. 11.30 a.m. RUGBY, Feb. 15. Last night British bombers were' out in strength over Germany and Italy, states the Air Ministry. A great weight of explosives and incendiaries was dropped on Cologne. After a heavy attack on Milan, large fires were observed in the industrial areas. Bombs were also dropped on the naval base of Spezia. Eleven of our aircraft are missing. Cologne was attacked in heavy cloud soon after 8 p.m., all our bombs being dropped in about half an hour. The defences were less active than usual, but enemy fighters were met. A concentrated attack, was made on Milan about 10.30 p.m. in brilliant moonlight. Italian defences were ineffective and anti-aircraft fire light. No fighters were seen. Paris radio claims that eight raiders were shot down over western Germany. A message from Lugano, Switzerland, says that many planes passed over the town and heavy explosions were heard from the direction of Italy.
