SHIPS AND DESTROYER SUNK N Z P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 12.30 p.m. SYDNEY, this day. The award of the American Distinguished Service Cross to Lieuten-ant-Commander Dudley W. Morton, hero of a submarine attack on Japanese vessels at Wewak and in other northern New Guinea waters last month, is announced from General Mac Arthur's headquarters. Lieuten-ant-Commander Morton was commander of the United States submarine Wahoo, which entered Wewak harbour on January 24 and sank an enemy destroyer. The submarine then attacked a convoy of four Japanese ships attempting to bring reinforcements to New Guinea. General Mac Arthur's citation says: "By courage and action, LieutenantCommander Morton destroyed completely every vessel of this convoy, which included two cargo ships, a tanker and a troop transport. He thus contributed outstandingly to .the success of our operations in New Guinea."
