Raider Bombs Main Street In English Coastal Town

MACHINE-GUN FIRE ON WOMEN Rec. 10 a.m. LONDON, Feb. 14. A number of people were killed and injured, many trapped under debris, when a single enemy raider swooped from the clouds and dropped a bomb in the main street of a small south-west coast town,. which was packed with shoppers.- The raider also machine-gunned women as they ran for shelter. 'J. - It was officially stated that shortly before mid-day yesterday there was slight enemy activity over the coastal area of south-west England. Bombs were dropped at one place, causing some damage and casualties, a small number of which were .fatal. Civilian casualties caused by air raids in January amounted to 328 killed or missing believed killed and 507 injured. , , ~ ± Ten casualties, including two killed, resulted from a moonlight raid by the Luftwaffe to-night on a southwest coast town. High explosives fell in the residential area, where people were catching the last buses home. Two other south-west coast towns were also bombed, but the damage was not considerable. - .
