R.A.F. Drops 1000 Tons Of Bombs On Lorient

SMOKE 15,000 FEET HIGH Rec.2p.m. RUGBY, Feb. 14. Stirling, Halifax and Lancaster bombers dropped over 1000 tons of bombs last night jon Lorient, the German submarine base in southwest France. _ „ , There were two attacks. The first began in bright moonlight about 8.15 p.m., and when the second wave went over the bombers picked up the target by the glow of fires from 160 miles away. When they arrived they found the dock area a vast mass of flames with smoke rising to a height of 15,000 feet. The last bomb was dropped shortly after 10 ' Squadron-Leader Nettleton, V.C., who -led the raid on Ausburg, was in command of the Lancasters.
