£3000 GRANT FOR ROADS
(0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day. To cover the cost <?f extraordinary maintenance occasioned through military traffic, free grants exceeding £3000 are being made to the Whangarei County Council, according to advice received to-day from the Main Highways Board. Both county roads and highways are covered, and the grants are conditional on county expenditure this year approximating the average sum for the past three years. The question of Onerahi Road, where it was stated damage had been done by another branch of the services, and which was excluded from the grants, was to be taken up with' the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones. / .
