CLUB IN CITY

FOR WOMEN IN FORCES

A club sponsored by the W.W.S.A. and financially supported by the Provincial Patriotic Council is soon to be opened in Queen's Arcade, to cater for the growing body of women serving in the W.AA.F., the W.A.A.C and W.R.N.'s. The premises were last year placed at the disposal of the W.W.S.A. by Sir Ernest Davis and the Hon. Eliot Davis, M.L.C., and until recently have been used for net making. This activity has been transferred to Sinclair's Buildings, Upper Queen Street. Many servicewomen who will be catered for do not have homes in Auckland, and there are others passing through the city .when being transferred from one station to another. The Provincial Patriotic Council has made a grant of £1200 toward the establishment of the club and has promised a subsidy up to £350 a year for maintenance. Other aid is being sought in the shape of furniture and other equipment.- Gifts of crockery will be appreciated. In the centre of the fairly spacious lounge there will be a dancing floor. The cloak rooms will include showers. Light refreshments will be available. It is expected that the club will be opened in about a month.
