NAZI SEA RAIDERS

May Be Passing Out By Way bf Arctic Ocean

NAZI ADMIRAL'S STATEMENT

Rec. 2.30 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 11. J It is stated in London that there may be some truth in Admiral Luetzow's statement that German warships have been passing out to raidinCT operations via the Arctic Ocean, qavs the British official wireless. The German ships did not find it easy to break out into the Atlantic from their home bases. Since the Bismarck fiasco they have not sent heavy warships raiding. They have, instead, employed only specially fitted and fairly powerfully armed merchant vessels, which have worked off the beaten track, constituting a nuisance, but not a serious challenge to British sea communications. „ , x _ In the early days of the war the Royal Navy visited the Antarctic dependencies of the Fallclands and destroyed oil installations in the South Shetlands which were used in peace time by whalers. This action was taken to prevent the enemy using the oil. British warships recently completed one of these periodic visits to the South Shetlands and other territories in that region.
