POURING IN

German Troops Cross Brenner Pass Into Italy

VIOLENT PUBLIC REACTIONS LONDON, Feb. 11. More German troops, including armoured units, are pouring over the Brenner Pass into Italy, says the Daily Express correspondent inside Europe. Although it is stated that these men are intended for strengthening the coastal defences, they are actually arriving in Milan, Turin, Naples, Spezia. Genoa, Bologna and Venice, all of which cities have suffered from heavy blows by the Royal Air Force or the Royal Navy. The Italians have relinquished their control over the motor roads in the north and the south, and only persons holding passes signed by the German authorities may use them. The failure of the Fascist regime to control the country, and the growing anti-war feeling, resulted in this new German invasion. The Italians, unlike the German public, know the facts of the Russian disaster, and are aware of the loss of their African Empire. In addition, the failure to safeguard the population from air raids, and the chaos caused by hastily-organised evacuation, have produced violent reactions.
