Mr. Eden Says Frenchmen Are Getting Together

NAZIS SHACKLING PRISONERS British Official Wireless Reed. 2.30 p.m. RUGBY, Feb. 11. Replying in the House of Commons to the debate which followed Mr. Churchill's statement, the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Eden, said there were encouraging indications that Frenchmen were getting together of their own volition. The winning of the war required unity among Frenchmen and restraint by Britain would help the position. . . Mr. Eden said Britain had no secret commitments of any kind with any power at all. . Referring to the shackling of prisoners of war, Mr. Eden recalled that Britain had responded immediately to Switzerland's appeal to unshackle prisoners, but the Germans had not seen fit to take similar action. Only this morning Britain had dispatched a further communication on the subject to the protecting Power.
