STOP DIPHTHERIA
INOCULATING CHILDREN (0.C.) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. With the exception of 200 pupils representing about six schools, all Taranaki school children will have undergone diphtheria inoculations or have had the opportunity of being inoculated, when the medical schedule for the first term of the school year has been completed. It is not always possible to visit every school in the province, Dr. J. H. Blakelock, medical officer of health for Taranaki, explained, but in cases where because of inacessibility or other reasons schools are not attended pupils and teachers are notified of the nearest school in the area to be visited. If the children wish to be inoculated they can travel to a particular school on a specified date. Pupils of approximately 40 schools will have the opportunity of being inoculated this term. Children attending primary school are examined on the average about three times from the date they enter school until their departure, Dr. Blakelock explained. The smaller schools are visited once every three years and all pupils are examined. J
