BEEF AT WESTFIELD AVERAGE ENTRY OF CATTLE There was an average entry of cattle at the weekly sale of fat stock at Westfield to-day. Prices of recent sales were fully reached for steers, while there was steady competition for cows and heifers. ATTCTIONEERS' REPORTS Messrs. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Dalgety and Co., and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency report on the sales as follows: —Beef: — Competition was steady for an average entry ol ox beef and late rates were fully maintained. Cows and heifers came forward in full average numbers and sold under ready competition and values on a par with late rates. Extra choice ox sold to 39/ per 1001b: choice and prime ox, 36/ to 38/; ordinary and plain, 32/ to 34/; prime young cow and heifer beef. 31/ to 35/: ordinary cow beef, 23/ to 25/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £15 to £15 10/; heavy prime steers, £13 10/ to £14 10/; lighter prime steers, £12 to £12 15/; light prime steers, £11 to £11 17/6; small and unfinished steers, £7 to £10 It)/; extra, heavy prime young cows and heifers, £10 to £1. 10/; heavy prime cows and haters, £8 10/ to £9 15/; lighter prime cows and heifers, £6 10/ to £7 15/; other tillable cows. £4 to £6.
