New Zealander Snapped Nazi Invasion Barges MARRIAGE AT WALTON Rec. 1 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 9.
The New Zealander who secured the first photographs of the German invasion barges massing in Channel ports after the fall of France for the invasion of England, and who was subsequently shot down by two Messerschmitts which lay in wait for him. was recently married. He is Flight-Lieutenant W. B. Parker, of Blenheim, and his bride, was Miss
Pearl Buchanan, of Walton-on-Thames. They were married at St. Mary's Church, Walton. The best man was Squadron-Leader R. J. Neal, Blenheim, who went to school with Flight-Lieutenant Parker and is now flying Halifax heavy bombers. The guests included Miss Joan Evans, of Hawke's Bay, and Sergeant Kevin Lowe, of Nelson. Flight-Lieutenant Parker narrowly escaped being burned to death when he was shot down. He had to bale out from his Spitfire at 29,000 feet. His flving suit was soaked with petrol and on fire, and the flames destroyed some of the parachute shrouds. The airman spent months recovering.
