ABSENCE OF CRIME
AND INEBRIATES TOO COMMENT BY MAGISTRATE
No arrests were made in Auckland yesterday, and of course there were no criminal cases to set before Mr. J. Morling, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. There was not even a solitary inebriate. "I understand there are no police cases to-day," said Mr. Morling, commenting oh the absence of a charge sheet. "In my memory it has not occurred' in Auckland before." However, Mr. K. C. Aekins reminded the magistrate that such a thing happened just before Christmas. • The v clerk then pointed out that it occurred on a Saturday, when there were generally few cases. "Perhaps the absence of drunks these days is due to .the reduction of the alcohol content in beer," suggested Mr. F. W. Schramm. Mr. Morling: I thought it was due to the purifying influence of the bar. (Laughter.) There were a- few maintenance cases set down for hearing this morning, but these did not keep the magistrate very long on the bench.
