PRODUCE PRICES LOWER The City Market was heavily supplied with outdoor tomatoes to-day. and values eased. A keen demand existed for dessert plums and peaches, and a slightly improved demand for hothouse grapes. Heavier supplies of passion fruit ara coming forward and values have fallen. The few nectarines available realised high rates. There was a good demand for raspberries. Peas and beans were most plentiful and prices easier. Lettuce was in heavy supply, meeting a moderate demand. Marrow? and cucumbers were in heavy quantity, with values low. Prices were:— Fruit.—Tomatoes: Outdoor, smooth 4/ to 8/ case; crinkled, choice. 51 to 8/: others. 2/ to 4/. Grapefruit: New Zealand, 33/ to 40/ case. Peaches: Dessert, 23/ to 30/, 3 tray: 11/ to 15/ case; Paragon, 13/6 to 16/; others. 8/ to 10/. Plums: Cooking, 7/ to 11/ case; Doris, 11/ to 16/; Purple King. 12/6 to 17/. Grapes: Hothouse— Black Hamburg, 1/11 to 3/ lb. Cape gooseberries, 9d per lb. .Passion fruit: Small case. 6/ to 6/6: ordinary case, 14/ to 17A Ncctarines: 12/ to 18/ case. Strawberries: Captain Cook, ex choice, 2/ to 3/2 chip; loose pack, 1/6 to 1/11. Raspberries: 14/ to 15/ tin. ..Vegetables.—Beet, 3/ to 4/6 case: celery, dessert 3/8 to 6/; carrots. 15/ to 27./ cwt: cauliflowers. 14/ to 18/6 sack: cabbages. 3/6 to 10/ sack local, 14/ to 20/ Ohakune: cucumbers, 9d to 1/6; apple cucumbers, 1/6 to 3/6 case; French beans. 2/ to 3/ bag. strinpless beans. 4/ to 8/ bag: green peas, 4/ to 12/6 bag; kumaras (Island), new season's, 5d to 7d lb; leeks, 1/ to 2/ bundle; lettuce. 3/6 to 9/6 case; marrows, 3/6 to 8/6 case; onions, 7/ to 9/ bag; potatoes, new. No. 1, lTsd lb;pumpkins. Red Warren. 12/ to 19/6 cwt; choice ripe Crown, 3d lb; medium quality Crown, 12/ to 18/ cwt; parsnips. 3/ to 4/ doz; radish, 1/ to 2/ doz; rhubarb, 2/6 to 5/ doz; spinach. 5/ to 9/ case; spring onions, 2/6 to 3/6 bundle; swedes, 4/ to 8/ bag; turnips, 2/ to 3/ case. Poultry.—The supply of poultry was medium and the demand was fair. The prices paid remained unchanged for most lines with: very little demand for drakes. Selling rates were:—Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime 6/ to 8/ each; not prime. 5/ to 6/; light breeds, prime 5/ to 7/6. not pnme 2/6 to 3/6. Hens, Heavy breeds, 6/6 to 7/6; light breeds. 3/6 to 4/. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best 7/ to 10/, smaller 2/ up; light breeds, best 4/ to 8/, smaller, 3/. Drakes: Young, prime 3/ to 4/, smaller 2/ up; old 2/6 to 3/. Ducks. Young, 6/ to 8/; old, 1/9 to 2/. Geese. 5/ to 10/. Turkeys; Hens, 7/6 to 10/; gobblers. 10/ to 15/. Ejtks. Butter. Flowers.—Egg. Standard hen, 2/4»,<f doz; standard duck Farmers' butter: 1/ to 1/i lb. Cut flowers: A moderate supply of flowers met a fair demand. Prices were fairly good.
