LIGHTING CONTROL
"SHOULD EMULATE DOMINION" Rec. 10 a.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 7. "The abolition of the brownout in New Zealand should be emulated in Australia," declares the New South Wales Minister for National Emergency Service, Mr. Heffron. He contrasts the recent decision of the Government in New Zealand, where controlled lighting has been more severe than in Australia, with what he called "the incomprehensible attitude of the Federal authorities." Mr. Heffron said all lights in the Sydney metropolitan area could now be switched off by throwing a single switch. Excellent lighting control had been established right along the coastline and a good warning system went with it. Thus, the existing restrictions had lost their value.
