GENERAL ELECTION
PRIME MINISTER'S HINT (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. A hint that a general election was being considered by the Government, was given !by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, yesterday afternoon when addressing a meeting of Christchurch East electors at St. Luke's school room. He was speaking on rehabilitation measures. "Mr. Herring said the rehabilitation programme was brought forward for by-election purposes; it was nothing of the kind," declared Mr. Fraser. "Whether Miss Howard is elected on Saturday or not, and I have no doubts myself of the issue, the rehabilitation programme will go on if Labour is returned at the next election, and your by-election is a test."
