ENORMOUS LOSSES
4,000,000 Germans Captured, Killed Or Crippled UNITED NATIONS ESTIMATE Rec. 1 p.m. NEW YORK, Feb. 3. Over 4,000,000 German soldiers have been killed, captured or permanently crippled, according to confidential figures compiled by the General Staff of one of the United Nations, declares the London correspondent of the New York Times. The figures are based on insurance statistics smuggled from Germany. The casualties, which occurred mainly on the Russian front, total approximately two-thirds of the present Reichswehr and equal the full strength of the Reichswehr at December 11, 1918. The German manpower problem is acutely increasing. Reserves are , rapidly approaching exhaustion. It is', improbable that Germany will have much offensive power left after 1943.
