COOL DECEMBER
VAGARIES OP WEATHER The Dominion meteorologist states that the weather in December was fairly good, but in parts of Hawke's Bay and Manawatu the dryness was serious. The rainfall was above the average in a belt extending from North Taranaki through Taupo to Opotiki, and also over Westland. A considerable amount of harvesting was completed under favourable conditions, but the season was backward in some southern districts. In contrast to a mild tendency since July, the average temperatures were below normal. Towards the north-east of the North Island, mean temperatures approached, or slightly exceeded, normal. Light frosts occurred in several districts. Sunshine was below the average in westerly areas from New Plymouth southwards, but in other areas rather better than average.
