Sixteen civilians and 15 soldiers were arrested in a brawl which lasted an hour at Bondi, popular Sydney seaside suburb, and which involved nearly 2000 people as well as a considerable number of military and civilian police.

When military police attempted to arrest three soldiers on charges of desertion civilians interfered. Police state that there 'were at least 50 separate fights at one stage. One arrested man had almost every piece of clothing torn from his body and was placed in a military truck wearing only his shoes and socks. A number of people were treated for minor injuries. Peak traffic in the seaside suburb was held up for an hour.
