PILOT'S DEATH

ON ACTIVE SERVICE

Advice has been received by Mr. and Mrs. P. Franklin, of 29, Eldon Road, Balmoral, that their son, Sergeant-Pilot B. A. Franklin, has been reported killed on active service. He was a member of the 75th New Zealand Bomber Squadron, and for the past four or five months had been captain of a Wellington bomber engaged on operational flights over enemy territory.

Aged 21 years, Sergeant-Pilot Franklin was educated at Kowhai Intermediate School and the Seddon Memorial Technical College. He commenced his training in the R.N.Z.A.F. in July, 1941, and gained his wings in November of the same year, passing out as an honours student. He left for overseas in January, 1942.

Prior to joining the R.N.Z.A.F., Sergeant-Pilot Franklin was employed in the office of Mr. Alan J. Moody, solicitor, of Auckland. His twin brother, Robert, is serving with the R.N.Z.A.F. overseas.
