REGAL FOX

TO-DAY'S RACING

TE AWAMUTU CUP

WATER VIXEN WINS

The weather was overcast- and there was a large attendance at the Waipa Racing Club's meeting to-day.

Another Hunting Song was added to the list of winners over hurdles when Hunto took the W. G. Park Handicap Hurdles after a very keen tussle with' Varuna. The latter made the early running from Prince Pilot and Hunto, and these three horses were out ten lengths with five furlongs to go. Prince Pilot then took a turn in the lead from Hunto which had the measure of Prince Pilot at the home turn. Varuna then joined Hunto, and in a punishing finish Hunto held the advantage by a neck. Prince Pilot was five lengths away, with a gap to Surwin, which was well ahead of the others.

Waipa Plate

Sunlore put up a good performance to win the first division of the Waipa Plate. He commenced well, but was several lengths behind at the home turn. However, once straightened up he quickly asserted his superiority to win running away by two lengths from Bramble Song, which had always been prominent. Dart Gold. Statue, Sporting Gold and All Glory were the first to show out, and Statue led Sporting Gold, All Glory, and Brome across the top, with Bramble Song and Bronze Lark handy. Sunlore then came on the scene to go away and win as he liked. Brome was only a short head behind Bramble Song, with All Glory and Dart Gold next.

Foxbrae reared up at the start of the second division and, swinging round, took no part in the race. Century, Exeter, Mairefox, Tudor Rose and Blue Fox soon went away from the opposition in the second division, and Century was half a length in front clear of Tudor Rose entering the straight. Exeter challenged at the distance and got to the front 50 yards from the judge to defeat Century by three-quarters of a length. Royal Master came home very fast to take third place, and can be ticked off for an early success. Miss Aroha, Prince Baffles and Tudor Rose did best of the others. Water Vixen Easily The First Ohaupo Hack Handicap was won very easily by Water Vixen. The Foxbridge mare was squeezed out at the start, losing about four lengths, but she then got a good run through into fifth position before they entered the top stretch. Brown sent her up smartly just before reaching the home turn, and she was in command once straightened up. Verner's apprentice had an easy ride after that, and Water Vixen won easing up by a length and a half from Tweedsmuir. which finished on smartly. Jov Vaals and Royal Pilot made the running for the first quarter, when Prince Rewa ran to the front to lead from Frustration, Bulwin, Tweedsmuir and Joy Vaals. Apart from Water Vixen and Tweedsmuir. Joy Vaals finished on better than any of the others to take third place, with the tiring Prince Rewa fourth and Frustration fifth. Detailed results:— W. G. PARK HURDLES or £200.
