SHOOTING OF PIGEONS
BIRDS USED BY ARMY COMMENT BY MINISTER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. As a result of thoughtless shoot- i ing serious losses have occurred of pigeons at present being used for , carrier pigeon services by the military authorities in New Zealand, said the Minister of Defence, Mr. , Jones. "Carrier pigeons are playing an increasingly important part in communications for military purposes, and attention is drawn to the heavy penalties'prescribed by law for the destruction, disabling or snaring of these birds." he added. "The cooperation of the public Is sought to prevent continued losses of birds by shooting or other action."
