WOMEN INSPECT
TEAM WARDENS' VISIT FEELING OP SECURITY Women team wardens of the Metropolitan Area, numbering over 60, met at the mouth of an entrance to the park air raid shelters this morning to inspect the shelters.
The Mayoress, Mrs. J. A. C. Allum, president of the E.P.S. Women's Auxiliary, explained that the visit was taking the place of the usual monthly meeting of the auxiliary and would give the team wardens an opportunity of reporting back to their teams.
Everyone arrived punctually and the party was met by Mrs. Allum, Mrs. W. T. Anderton, secretary of the auxiliary, and Mr. J. Tyler, city engineer, who conducted them on the tour and explained the facilities. The wardens proceeded through the tunnels, inspected the first aid posts and sanitary arrangements en route, and, on emerging at the far end, Mr. Tyler continued his explanation of the work thai had been done. Questions were asked by the wardens, and in answering the possibilities of children getting lost in the tunnels, Mr. Tyler explained that the entrances and exits were so arranged that nobody could get lost if thev kept on walking. He also said that a loud speaker system would keep those sheltering informed as to what was going on. The matter of entering the shelters was also explained. Responsible people had the keys, and the first on the job could get in. There was also a maintenance staff which would be on the spot. Comments by the women wardens proved that they were more than satisfied with the shelters. They felt that there was definite securi'y and were glad to report back to their teams. At the end of the tour the meeting was held inside, chairs being arranged along one of the tunnels. In thanking Mr. Tyler, Mrs. Allum congratulated all those who had done the work. "We feel a hundred per cent better for the visit," she concluded.
